Wow. It's hard to believe that we've finally chosen our 2017 Mazzone Hospitality Capital Region Couple of the Year! With over 300 entries, the decision to narrow this competition down to 1 lucky couple was incredibly hard. Seriously, hard. But however difficult the decision was, we know we made a great choice in couple.
Asi Somburu, 33, a medical student, and Chenique Rowe, 28, a social worker, of Albany, were engaged in Mexico in 2016, and originally elected to put their wedding plans on hold for three years due to the financial burden of student loans.
Those involved in the interview process were drawn to this couple's video submission, which detailed their courtship, and highlighted their shared values for community service as a medical student and social worker, respectively. Their decision to marry was made simple due to their selfless dedication to helping each other through rough times, and to individuals in need in the community.

We are thrilled to create a joyous and memorable wedding day for them as they officially begin the next stage of their lives together."
Now, what does this Couple of the Year competition entail? Be prepared to be blown away. Asi and Chenique have been awarded a year of "the wedding works". Over $100,000 worth of wedding planning prizes. They will receive services from some of the Capital Region's most well-known wedding vendors, including:
videography and photography from The Harris Company; floral design from Blooms Floral Design; bridal gown and bridal party attire from Ferri Formals and Tuxego; a full wedding year coordination package by Katie O Weddings and Events, music by DJ Vinny Vin of Nonstop Music, Victoria O Milne Custom Wedding Officiant, ceremony music from Spa City Duo, tent and decor by Rain or Shine Events and Total Events, rings by Northeastern Fine Jewelry, fitness package by Fitness Artist, event styling by Styled By Melissa, hair and makeup from Make Me Fabulous, ice sculpture from "The Ice Man" Customized Ice Sculptures a photo booth from Smile Lounge, stationary by Pretty Polite and wedding night stay as well as bachelorette party suite from Pavilion Grand Hotel. Additionally, our team here at Mazzone Hospitality will host the couple's engagement party; bridal shower; bachelorette party; and rehearsal dinner as part of their prize winnings!
Through this journey, we look forward to providing an inside glimpse into all the decisions and events that lead up to the traditional wedding celebration as we follow Asi and Chenique during the planning process.
